AMAL carburettor Twin Float Chambers
3/2005: Most SS100s were delivered
with twin float chambers on their AMAL carbs. The technical advantage of
this setup is debatable, at least for normal street use, but it looks ever
so sexy. Unfortunately these twin chambers have become very rare these days.
When I had, through some swaps, got hold of two scruffy long reach single float chambers I felt this was the time to do some radical surgery. I dismantled the two chambers, cut the rings off the arms and cleaned up the bits. |
|
Now these were top feed chambers and I wanted the bottom feed variant. The modification can be done relatively easily , but you need to make a jig to hold the arm centrically to the 3/8x28tpi thread. .
Turning a new ring was also not to difficult a task, and I made a little jig to keep everything well aligned while silver solder everything together.
The soldering wanted cleaning up and the various faces needed to be trued up a little...
...but the result looked quite presentable.
And this is how it looks on the carburettor.
to be continued.... |
